Good for her . It took >20 yrs.for us to clear my student debt .I was always grateful however that it was available . Honoring obligations are essential .

That's a great accomplishment. Just wondering would you have encouraged her to take money from Joe if it were available given how you hate the concept of taxpayer assistance?

I paid mine off (JD/MD) in about 20 years.  No assistance.  Don't go to school if you don't want to pay for it

Paid off my Master's and Professional degree loans in probably 10-12 years.  Would like to see the REDI Act passed which would defer interest on student loans while an individual is in professional school.  In answer to Fish's question, I would have no problem recommending to my children to accept any and all loan forgiveness from the government.  Why put them behind the eight ball watching their colleagues flaunting their "get out of jail free" card.

Well from GFY it is a dumb question.  If it is forgiven, I doubt there is a mechanism to call them up and say dont forgive mine, just leave mine in place or give that money to pay off someone elses who is not covered under this taxpayer handout.

At best you could as a protest or something try to figure out a way to send money back to the government ( not a political donation to a canidate) yearly to cover what you would have paid until you paid back the attempt by the demonrats to buy votes.

Phil, you don't understand my post as it was for Lucky. He posted he had written to Tuberville to complain cause his daughter's bank loan did not qualify for the program. He then posted "I'll be damed if my tax monrey should go to pay off a kids loan i don know & have never met".

So my question was simply is he against the program cause his daughter's loan did not qualify? And, would it be a great program if it paid off his daughter's loan?

I agree with Lucky - My tax dollars should not be used to pay the debts of others - and more specifically s a vote buying scheme in an election year.

While I am not Lucky - I am against the program period( So were several courts - but Biden apparently ignored that too, so he could do this in an election year for demonrat gain), and would be against it even if it payed off any education debt my children owe, they signed up and agreed to the terms.

So apparently you are cross referencing the below thread from 3 months ago, which he knew the answer when he asked it of the bank based on my reading of it - "they laughed at me & said she signed a NOTE which is an obligation to repay (***** exactly I said!*****)".

I think lucky, regardless of his motive for sending the letters wanting to point out that the program descriminates against those who moved out of government loans for whatever reason, will get exactly what he expected (his referece to a lack of response from all or even just one.  The few times I wrote a federal employee asking a question I got a form letter back that did not answer my question at all because it was probably already printed and sitting on some staffers desk to have a name filled in OR got back a letter asking for donations - which I need it more then they do.

with Bernie, Warren Squad all threatening Joe to erase all FEDERAL  STUDENT LOAN DEBT-- I have  written all of them + my congressmen-Tubberville & Barry Moore- my youngest daughter ( still single)  is a critical care lab technologist, wears a hazmat suit part of each shift)--took out $40k in loans in 2009--has faithfully paid $425 monthly & still owes $18k--now when she took out the loans, National banks were 4.5% interest & FED loans were 6.5%--so for all the clammoring--if they cancell all fed loan debt I'm saying pay off the private student loan debt- I am not cosigned with my daughter, but am authorized to view & inquire- so   when i posed the question to her lender they laughed at me & said she signed a NOTE which is an obligation to repay ( exactly I said!): , now she has over 100k on her Honda  & needs a new auto & that $425 would really help. SO here I am 2 weeks later still waiting a response from all or just 1 ! Also I think both my daughters should receive a refund of what theyve paid over the years-oldest daughter worked 1 full time & 2 parttime jobs to pay off her $20k. I'll be damed if my tax monrey should go to pay off a kids loan i don know & have never met

Neither did the courts - but that does not seem to slow down the guy you voted for.
