Ok, I grew up floating creeks and rivers and have had the pleasure occasionally since. I intend to take up floating on a regular basis again. With the success of the Alabama Scenic River Trails and the tallapoosa being added, we have great floating around here above lake Martin and below tallasee. Not to mention all the great floating down the coosa and tributaries not too far north of here.

So, I'd like to know who the floaters are on here so we can exchange info and advice, and maybe get some group floats together.

please check in!

I'm on the river alot and love it.  Kayak, canoe, and my new favorite...drift boat.

I just got a Nucanoe sit on top kayak to get better at fishing the Tallapoosa.

Fly fishing guy - what kind of drift boat do you have? The kind on inflatable pontoons or the solid fiberglass kind?

There is a good ramp at Germany's Ferry rd crossing if you want to float downstream  to the bridge at Horseshoe bend but no real wadeing access . The bridge at Horseshoe bend is the most popular area for fishing because you can wade there as well as a boat ramp location  . The next access down stream is at the end of Boone valley rd .  at the mouth of Jaybird creek . The Boone valley rd. gets pretty rough by the time it gets to the river and the area there would make the white shoe type kind of nervous . From jaybird creek down you are in the lake proper . It is possible to paddle upstream from Jaybird to the last shoals on the river but there is no wadeing access .

Sorry for delayed reply...

It's an NRS inflatable raft with a three seat fishing frame.  Tough to use when the water gets super low, but an amazing way to float/fish the river.

The drifter needs a good amount of current, so we usually go from HB to Jaybird.  The higher number of shallow shoals make for better current.

I want to find/get permission to use access points to float through Griffin Shoals. (in between Germany's Ferry and HB).  It is ten miles between those two access points and makes for a very long day rowing on the drifter.

I went scouting the griffen shoals access but gave it up at the posted signs .
