Read the article in the link and see if you don't feel a little angry that people who probably don't live or visit the lake are questioning our Marine Police's efforts. To those of you in the SeaArk's I proudly say thank you! While the rest of us were out on the water cruising and having fun on Sunday (or any other day for that matter) you were out in a hot uniform, and a hot boat keeping us safe. For some yahoo in Montgomery to question your ability to respond to an accident in a "timely" manner is insulting. Most of us were having dinner with our friends and family and you were just tying up for the night to go home and get some rest before having to be back on Monday for another toiling day in a hot uniform in a hot boat.
Officer Buchanan, I don't know where you live, but to get a call from a dispatcher, get into uniform, travel to the marina, get to your boat and be on scene in 20 minutes is remarkable. It took an hour & a half for Elmore to respond to a burglary in progress at my neighbors earlier this year. After calling 911 about the thugs in the neighbors house, I sat helplessly by and watched them load the car and drive off, then waited over an hour for deputies to arrive.
Yes we need more officers, but I'd be willing to bet that if surveyed most everyone on this forum would opt for better roads around the lake before more officers. If you do the math according to the article, we are without any patrols on the water more than half the time. I am happy to know that in an emergency situation these officers respond from home to assist us.
Again, I say thank you for a job well done to the Marine Patrol Officers!
