Hi there-
We have two Golden Retrievers who LOVE the water. We have an invisible fence just installed about 3 months ago by Dogwatch out of Montgomery ( whom I highly recommend ) We have a sloped (steep lot) yard and about 280 feet of water front. They have been given access to the water near the dock. What they do is sink the wire into the lake so it does not shock your dog. He can make the area you want them to have access to as big or small as you want. My dogs learned about the fence very quickly.. and we keep it on level 3 -- it goes as high as 10 I think.

One of them has figured out when he does not have on the collar he can go where he wants -- the other one - not as bright-- won't EVER go past a certain area. The collar warns them before they get buzzed so they learn by hearing the sound-- and then running toward the center of your yard or toward your house.  It's not a hard process. I trained with my dogs about 20 minutes a day for three days and they understood it pretty quick.

Watch your pup though--  mine like to chase ducks and swim nearly across the lake to the other side (as if they could catch them) until I yell for them to come back.
