We have St. Augustine at the lake and Centipede in the backyard at the house. Both are "weed grasses", so you have to be VERY careful if you apply a broadleaf weed killer... In Montgomery, we had Bermuda and liked it, went with Celebration Bermuda for the front at the house last year and really like it. It is supposed to be shade tolerant, and seems to do well on the North side of a privacy fence.
