The kid next door is an expert, and he told me that the most common water snake on Lake Martin is, far and away, something called a Midland Water Snake. He said that there are few, if any, Diamondback Watersnakes on the lake; they are more abundant in the eastern part of the state.
And I hate to tell you this, joyrider, he also said that if you are in this state, much less on the lake, you are pretty much surrounded by snakes. He says they are found everywhere, and to prove his point he showed me a picture of a six-foot Rat Snake that was caught in downtown Birmingham!
