Like millions of other veterans and non-veterans all over the US of A, I'll do my quiet Memorial Day observance here with family and friends enjoying and being thankful for the freedoms that have been purchased at a very steep price by many others over the centuries.

I don't begrudge those who did not serve- we all make choices-I do begrudge those who take those sacrifices lightly or disrespect them out of ignorance or malice.

I'm loathe to totally second guess our leaders when they are faced with some of life's toughest choices; such as Kobar Towers, USS Cole, NY Trade Center, Pentagon, the narrow escape of the White House or the Congress etc., they are doing what is expected of them also. They need our prayers.

I've worn the uniform here and while traveling in other countries and I have travelled as a civilian and worked on foreign assignments and I have come away from all that with a great appreciation for our country, what it stands for and what we as a nation are willing to do with our precious citizen soldiers and treasury in order to make this chaotic world a bit more sane.

My thoughts and prayers are with our men and women in uniform as they do the heavy lifting for us.

I'm counting my blessings for being a American, having a great family, having my health and making my soft landing here at Lake Martin, Blue Creek Area near Welcome Island.

Here's to a Great Country!
