Fall is considered a great time to catch stripes on topwater lures as they tear into schools of shad. However, I never hear about that happening on Lake Martin. Do the gulf strain stripers stocked in the lake not do that? Maybe the stripe fishermen are being hush hush about it. I wonder about it because up the Little Kowaliga arm, there are hundreds of schools of shad swimming around in the evenings, but hardly anything other than the occasional spot bothers to eat them. Come to think about it, the few times I have run down to Chimney Rock in the fall, there has not been any surface activity there either. What makes Martin stripes different than stripes from other lakes?
