Alabama Power doesn't randomly drop the water level in the summer. There are three primary reasons the level drops during the summer. 1st the amount of rainfall greatly effects the lake level because it's not fed by any large tributaries, 2nd the lake is used for power generation during peak load that occurs due to hot weather, 3rd - the lake is used to cool the warrior river which is required for cooling water at a couple of the Power Generation Plants downstream. I wish they could keep the level up as well but it was built for this purpose so I guess they have the right to use it for what it was built for.
