if you can create a habitat(cedars, xmas trees, pine tops, etc...) for the fish your pier will start holding all kinds of fish....you have to have some type of cover that attracts bait fish and that will bring the game fish.....its hard to beat shiners but if i can catch them on jigs i do.when fishing from a pier i usually have 2-3 poles rigged with minnows and then i cast a jig around to locate fish and up my chances of catch....
