Obviously the owner loves AU more than his Springer Spaniel.

Look for a tattoo. Take the dog to a vet for a chip scan - although there are different protocols and some are not compatible.

It never ceases to amaze me how people that "love" their pets and whine and cry because they are lost but can't spare a couple of bucks to put a tag on it..not to mention the rabies tag requirement.
