-Before commenting on the dem party, a little personal background:
-I was a dem from 1960-68. My party affiliation was based primarily on my youth, my family's political loyalties, my social position, my religious background, and my understanding of U.S. history and patriotism. In my mind, Johnson was teh last Dem politico that fit within my ideas of a dem.

-In 1980, I became a repub, ==partly driven there by Carter and partly drawn there by Reagan. However, Reagan was the last of my kind of repub.

-From 1990 to the present, I've been an independent.

-With the above as background of my understanding of the two parties, I ask, "What is a democrat today?" If dems, or even independents, want to turn away from Obama, to whom or what, to which dems, do they turn?

- Two generations of Americans only know dems primarily as being strong socialists, weak on national security, and having little economic sense. Like in all organizations, the dem leadership promotes only those who look a lot like themselves. I would suggest that those in today's dem party who want to turn away from present dem leadership have few in their party to turn to. A problem most Tea Party members recognize in their own move away from the repub party.

-Both present day parties are sad children of their forefathers.
