Hound, my perspective on this is that all of the most talked about crop have serious problems and would not be my first choice. I am referring to Romney, Huckabee, Gingrich, Bachman, Palin, Pawlenty, etc. Where I think we are seeing real leadership is with some GOP governors, including Christie, Walker, Kasich, Barbour, Jindal, etc. as well as some in Congress like Rubio, Ryan, Mitch Daniels, etc.
I suspect that none of the first group will be the nominee but much will depend on how truly vulnerable Obama is come mid- late summer. If he looks beatable I think you will see some of these really interesting options come to the fore. If Obama is looking safe for reelection expect a sacrificial lamb ala Bob Dole, Mike Dukakis, Walter Mondale, etc.
