As for kids ... have one but he is 24 now and out working. Because I had nothing as a kid, I probably went too far the other way with him. Although, while he had a lot it was in line with the surroundings in which he was brought up. He did appreciate what he had, he was made to save and work for extra luxuries. We made him pay for a small part of his college through loans so he appreciated his education and it was not free ... and not just to party (although he had a tough time with that concept).
After he graduated he lived home for a short period before getting transferred to another city and we made him pay some rent.
I will say, he has never been in trouble of any kind, we can not be more proud and even at his low income level he is a die hard republican conservative. And best of all ... he works for US Bank so he is going through this whole financial crisis. The bank loves his work ethic since they rarely see that in young adults anymore. I would like to think he saw that in me and it rubbed off that you get ahead through hard quality work.
