Went to the north end of the lake on Saturday morning only to find that it had been fished to death! The Guys and Dolls hit it hard all week and then there were two tournaments going on Saturday morning. The one from Troy,AL and one over from the Atlanta area. I love to see all these guys picking our area for their tournaments and spending their money here but man it makes for tuff fishing conditions. We had a great time on the water Sat. and met some great people but only found a couple of fish. We tried most everything in the box but I am sure these fish have seen EVERYTHING in the past couple of days. Of the few fish we found they were all holding tight to wood cover. If you could find wood cover with a little grass on a sloping point, you should be in the right place.
I really wanted to catch a fish this weekend so Sunday afternoon I put in just above the dam and fished some less used water. I once again found fish holding tight to wood in 6 to 10 ft of water with deeper water nearby. The numbers were there but no real size. I caught 12 fish in 2 hours but only 1 would come near the 2pd mark. A fun afternoon all things considered though. I did have the chance to relearn a spinning reel. I had been fishing baitcasting so long that I had forgotten how to handle spinning tackle but if you are going to throw a spotsticker, spinning tackle is the way to go. A baitcaster will work but if you really want to get back under those docks you need spinning tackle.
Did anybody else find fish this weekend on Neely? I heard that 17+# won the Guys and Dolls. I started to goto the weigh-in for those guys up from Troy but we thought we had found some fish around 4pm. (we were mistaken)
Tight lines! God Bless!
Buddy
