Our AC went out Thursday night, so some friends invited us to stay at their place. We were very grateful, since our house would have been unbearable without air conditioning. I don't mind the summertime heat, except when I'm trying to sleep, and I don't think I would have gotten a minute's sleep this weekend, not with our house being a big oven.
As it turned out, I didn't get much sleep anyway, because the neighbors loved their music. They loved it loud, and they loved it late. I even commented on Friday evening that I was glad they had good musical taste, because not listening wasn't an option, since they were playing it so loud that it was hard to talk over it. Unfortunately I spoke too soon. At some point after dinner they turned the stereo over to the youngsters, and we were subjected to something modern and atonal. That was around 10:00 or 11:00; I don't know exactly how late they kept the music blaring, but I know it was still going strong at 2:00 a.m.
Amazingly enough, as loud as the music was, their screaming was louder. Nothing against having fun, but if I could hear them from across the slough, they had to be suffering some hearing damage. Or maybe they have already suffered it, which is why they have to play their music so loud and scream to be heard.
On Saturday the music started again, on Saturday night it was still blaring, and once again they turned the music over to the kids after dinner, who again were still going strong well into the early morning hours.
The venting is almost done, but one more: If you live in the big log cabin in Cherokee slough-- the one with the big lawn and the two-level dock with the party lights-- please have some consideration for your neighbors (and their guests) and SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not everyone wants to listen to you party until almost sunrise. I'm not saying you can't stay up late and listen to your music, just turn it down so that everyone around you doesn't have to listen, too.
