I intended to respond earlier but it slipped my mind. Like you, my son bought a larger boat and it was too heavy for the lift. We doubled the length of the lift cables, which doubles the mechanical advantage, and the lift works fine. That's not to say that you don't need a larger motor, but it is a possibility.
