Considering that I used to pay over $6000 a year in property taxes in Northern VA, I'm quite happy paying what I do to Coosa County. If they raise property taxes, then they will have to provide services, which are now non-existent. Yes, they could raise property taxes, but you know that those of us on the lake will be hit much harder than anyone else in the county. I would pay higher taxes for the fire department not to take 40 minutes to get to my house; and it would be nice to know that it wouldn't take 45 mintues to an hour for the Sheriff to arrive. And it would be good if we had an airlift to the hospital for really serious injury or illness (since it takes 20 minutes at best to get to the hospital in Alex City) On a more modest scale, it would be nice if they raised taxes and actually fixed the road, rather than just putting that tar/gravel mix in the pot holes 2X per year.
I'm afraid I think that those in charge in Montgomery have no money management skills. The whole kabal that is our state government does not promote a feeling of security.
