Also is more coarse so as you say, it helps to keep the soil loose and aerated.  I wish I had about 150-200 yards of the stuff on my property here in "Fungummery".  We have what they call "prairie soil" which dries to the consistency of a brick, with huge cracks in the soil when it is dry, but after it gets wet it is the consistncy of axle grease and about as slippery.
