Your post made me think too, that if he kept a tool box and some business cards he could be making 'service calls'. The unfortunate thing is not evrybody owns a Marine Shop, so it only works for him.

I suggest peaceful disobedience. One last hurrah for sure, but instead of keeping it secret, publicize it the most you can. The squeaking wheel gets the grease. APCO HATES bad press.
