..........gridlock in Congress is holding up funding for Zika prevention, and the window of opportunity for actually slowing down or stopping those mosquitos is about to close. It's a health crisis we could keep under (somewhat) control if they could get their act together and take action. There are going to be quite a few people in the southeast affected by the virus directly, and babies who will need life long care.
The incidence of a pregnant girl giving birth to a microcephalic newborn is maybe between 1-5% if they catch the virus in the first trimester... They can't be sure yet. In South America, there were estimates of the rate being as high as 20%.
This could turn into another real good example of why a gridlocked & polarized government is bad for all of us, regardless of which side of the political argument we take.
