This is typical right-wing partial reporting of the truth in order to intentionally misrepresent the circumstances.
The facility was indeed built under the previous administration to assist in dealing with the surge in unaccompanied children appearing at the border. The cages were to be used to temporarily separate children by gender and age for reasons that hopefully will be obvious even to you. Jeh Johnson said about them, "use of the “cage” detention housing method was supposed to be temporary, and that under the law, children were only supposed to be kept in those facilities for 72 hours before being transferred to the care of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)."
The present admin is ignoring the law in this and many other instances and housing children who have been forcibly separated from their parents in these cages, sometimes for weeks. Their practices are not a continuation of previous practice; they are brutally inhumane and illegal
