If you think about it, most of the toys we played with were dangerous, compared to today's toys. How we ever made it to adulthood is beyond me. Back to herons--my golden and lab will run off the herons, but only to impress me if I happen to be outside, otherwise, they just ignore them. The herons remind me of some prehistoric creature--sound like one too. We watched one swallow a catfish that weighed about 1/2 pound the other day--the heron threw the catfish way up on the back and pecked at the fish until it stopped squirming, then the heron swallowed it in about 10 seconds, hopped down in the water and started fishing again. If I didn't have to work, I could really put in some serious "creature-watching" time..... Life on Logan Martin is so wonderful--never a shortage of awesome sunrises and sunsets over the water, plenty of "two-legged wildlife", etc. Of course now the water is starting to get that warm feel to it and scum is starting to form up in our slough. We need rain....
