I talked firewood with the 'Trees R Us' crew while they were doing some work in my yard, and was surprised to find out that it's so uneconomical for them to size & split the wood they bring down that they just haul it off to be burned.   Of course, much of it is pine and not suited for fireplaces & chimneys.

However, if you wanted to put some sweat equity into it, you might tag along with one of those crews with a splitter and pick up wood they are going to have to pay to dump.  The Trees R Us crew was really good to work with, and reasonably priced.   Who knows, maybe you can get your firewood for free that way.

Otherwise, I'm hauling firewood down from a wood lot in Pelham/Alabaster.  A long way to go.
