No, the government does not subsidize my insurance as a retiree. The benefit I get is that I get to stay in the group and the volume of participants is so large, it gets the group a favorable rate. Active employees of the government have some of their health care costs paid for by the government, at least as of this moment.
I talk to a lot of people that don't work for the government. I've been extremely interested in how Obamacare works, how much it costs, and how the coverage is. Everyone I have talked to that went through exchange says that while they can afford the premiums, the deductibles are ridiculous - so it is about the same as not having insurance.
