Well I can not believe we are already nearing spring !
February proved to be a good month if you were able to fish on the cold, cloudy, wet and windy days. Our pretty days didn't pan out like in the past but man the rough weather days were awesome for the most part.
March even though we will still have some cold and miserable weather days will definitely start producing bigger stripers. I personally will be planer boarding with bigger baits this month as these monster fish want to and have to fill their bellies. Most striper fishermen will be concentrating from the middle of the lake north up into the river. even though all stripers do not move to these areas by far a lot of them do, so your chances of catching stripers in these areas do increase especially in March.
As always Alex City Guide Service specializes in live bait fishing but you definitely can catch striper with numerous types of jigs, spoons, crank baits and top water baits.
March will also increase our business as the crappie trips increase. We troll for crappie in the major creek channels during March producing great catches. I especially like using the lightest line and tackle that I feel I can get by with.
Don't forget if your new to Lake Martin or just new to fishing period that it is very wise to hire a proven guide service to show and teach you some areas and techniques that should help you be able to get a jump start on having successful trips on your on.
Until next time be safe and get off the couch and go catch a fish !
