I have a 2001 Mercruiser Stern Drive with Tilt and Trim. I have already replaced the solenoid on the up-side, both the up and trailer side work fine. My issue is with the trim down side. It has worked dependably for the most part up through the end of last season. I say for the most part because there would be times that it would not. So I'd bump the trim up a time or two and then it (down) would work. My thought was that the solenoid was going out and I'd have to replace it eventually. When I started my spring cleaning and tried to trim the drive down to fire it up.....nothing! So off to the shop, replace the solenoid (not as easy as the up btw). Hooked everything back up, tossed the extra parts over my left shoulder out of the right side of the boat for good luck, and ....nothing! If I bump the trailer button and then immediately hit the trim down it will work. But if I just cold press the down button I get nothing. So my thinking is that I shouldn't have to do that. I also think it tells me that I have a short, and electricity can't cross that short unless I bump the up side first. And so my guess is that it's not at the trim motor end of the circuit, but possibly at the throttle end. Any insight would be helpful. I've already mowed the grass, so finding the extra parts that I threw overboard is not an option. :D

Prolly the switch on the throttle lever. I will be happy to test it for you and advise. If you are close to me at Lake Store, call me and I will talk you through it. Or, just drop by.
Respectfully, Steve 256-825-3388

Thanks for the reply, as you always do when someone posts with an issue. I'm going to (as much as I can) inspect the wires coming out of the throttle end to see if I have any loose connections or worn wires. If that doesn't remedy then I will contact you. Do you still have the lake store? I believe I rode past your store in Prattville not long ago, and I started looking for the water!

No water at Prattville, or Lake store. There are three colors of wires. If you will call, I will help you. I am in Prattville Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Monday in Pensacola, and Tuesday in La. Then back at Lake. 334-358-2838. Steve.
