I have a Sea-Doo, 2006 4-TEC model with about 50 hours on it. New spark plugs, oil change, etc.

When I try to start the engine I push the Start Switch and get a click but the starter doesn't kick in. I do this 2 or 3 times and everything works fine and the engine runs fine. This happens most of the time but after a couple of tries the engine always starts.

My question is: Do I have a problem I should address or is this a problem I should just put up with. I would hate to get stuck out on the lake somewhere.

I wonder if it is the battery or the ground? Is there any corrosion on the terminals? Check to see if the terminals are tight. Check the cable connection at the starter and the ground cable. You can pull the battery and have it tested free at an auto store. Beyond that, I would call Cathouse Marine and talk to Steve. (334) 517-6500

I have a few smoke detectors and one beeps. Should I wait to replacee the battery? I hate to have it stop working.........Bottom line get your Doo fixed.

I had the same problem with an '07 model.  Did some investigating online and found out mfg had a problem with the starter solenoid.  Solenoid is located on the port side close to the bow.  Seems I found one aftermarket parts store.  No problems since.  Easy fix.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion. I looked up the starter solenoid and found that it was built with a flaw that allowed moisture to get into the unit and corrode the contact points. The new unit is molded together and therefore sealed. On-line - $14 including shipping. The only problem was removing the lower bolt that I could not see and could only get a finger tip on it. To install the new unit I cut the lower lug so the bolt hole could be slotted so the bolt could be put on first and then slide the unit into place and just tighten the bolt.

I'm now ready for summer. I don't post much but keep up the good work on the "Off-Topic" forum.

Glad you got it going.  Another problem that I ran into are the plugs.  Had a bad missing problem till a wise old mechanic told me I need to change plugs every season.  Don't know why plugs go bad with so few hours, but it sure fixed the miss.  Have fun!

Just pulled my plugs to change (had not cranked) and two of them had a drop of water, moisture, right in the gap.  SeaDoo is stored inside boat house on a lift during off season so now I know why you should change plugs.
