Subject:   Is HBO schizophrenic???

On a flight from LA back to ATL last night I watched the HBO movie "Taking Chance" with Kevin Bacon and it was absolutely great. Very little politics in the movie and it was really moving in their depiction of the courage of our military and the incredible respect they show for each and every fallen soldier. If you haven't seen the movie and love your country and our great military you will really like it. Kevin Bacon deserves an award for his role.

I could not help but ponder the dichotomy of how HBO, the home of people Bill Maher, Bryant Gumbel, pornography, etc., actually does movies like this one or the Band of Brothers or Pacific series. I could never have the channel at home but it was great to see them producing something like this.

Speaking of the Pacific series, I have caught a couple of episodes while staying in a hotel and was wondering what others thought. For some reason it just doesn't capture me like the Band of Brothers series did. I can't articulate what seems to be missing for me. Anyone else seen this series and I'm curious what you think.

I've been watching the "Pacific" series. I agree with your comparison to the "Band of Brothers". While the Pacific does depict well the horrible conditions faced by the soldiers it does not have that magic where I'm pulled into their world instead of just a viewer. The Band of Brothers did that so well. Going off on a tangent here...when you see what sacrifices have been made for our country (and other countries) to maintain freedom it infuriates me to see the American flag burned in protest. As I see it, the flag stands foremost for those that gave all they had to defend it; it does not represent the current administration in Washington.

Is it schizophrenic? Probably no more so than America. If HBO can honestly reflect the many facets of what is America, then great

-The way I watch TV now (or read the press) is to view the source as one-sided and then evaluate the product from that perspective. Sad, --but just the way things are.

-Can't add to the views on the Pacific series, I don't have HBO, --too cheap I guess.
