Does anyone know what happened to the rope swing close to the dam? Rode by there this afternoon and the trees have been cut down, ropes gone and the cable removed.

It sounds as if the owner has liablility concerns.
Many years ago, I had a high school friend who broke his neck on one. He was very lucky and did not suffer any paralysis or even worse from the incident.

I was there Tue, it is true. All zip lines, the rope swing, hell; the whole tree is cut down. Wow! Let's make another one.

You have to remember some of us live here full time and it is our home. Most of us appreciate and support parks and recreational enjoyment. There are several places of this type on Lake Martin to include walking trails. We only want the same as you and others in their full time neigborhoods.
I am sure you would want a new park next door to your home or in your neighborhood to be established in an orgainzed and structured environments with safety as a primary consideration.
There are many locations on Lake Martin which are remote and far from medical aid and first responders.
There seems to be some discussion on these type of issues with mountain climbers and etc. on public property and parks.
Please think about it. OK?
I think this issue is worthy of further discussion.

Well feb, it was in a very remote area....no chance of bothering anyone. I thought it was APC property, but maybe not. Either way, I hate to see it go. Our society has developed into one severely lacking when it comes to holding individuals accountable for their own actions and decisions, so I can understand why the property owners made it disappear.

Yes, because park-type areas with walking trails are EXACTLY the same as a rope hanging from a tree in an uninhabited slough. (insert eye-roll here.)
Pre-emptive response to Feb: Yes, I own property here and live on it full time, so I DO have the right to have an opinion, even if it differs from yours.

And what are you trying to do? Hook me into owning up to a statement I never made. Did I ever say you had no right to an opinion. My personal belief is you have the right to an opinion and you have the right to put up a rope swing on your propery. I hope I can ride by and see you and yours enjoying it. You do not have the right to claim I made statements I did not make. OK?
I am also not opposed to a rope swing or folks having fun. My only concern is it be done properly for everyone's pleasure and safety. It should also be done properly with respect to other's property.
Do I see a slight difference in a walking trail and a rope swing. I think the risk are somewhat higer with a swing. Someone also mentioned a cable slide. It could be safe or it could be dangerous considering the size of the swing/cable and the age and the levelo of supervision of the youngsters enjoying the Lake adventure.
