-The Carolinas must be an interesting --and sometimes sad---place to live. -The other day I posted info on school districts in the Carolinas that designated MLK Day as a snow make-up day and made the kids go to school on this holiday. -Today, news comes that the NAACP in Columbia, South Carolina built a 3-sided box around a prominent statue of George Washington so that those attending the annual MLK observance wouldn't be offended by the presence of teh father of our country, --who also happened to be a slave owner. My assessment is that the NAACP decision makers are as stupid and racist as the school committee decision makers. -That some people with these stupid and racists views exist in each group is sad, ...but to be expected. That they are the dominent decision makers within these groups is just plain sad!

This is just the kind of thing that makes me tired.  Because it reminds me that as far as we've come, we haven't come that far.  There are black people who want to pretend that slavery was never a part of our country, but it was.  The past can't be undone.  They want to make it a point at every opportunity that they were done WRONG.

On the other hand, it's like some white people go out of their way to be insensitive.  How does it hurt anyone that we take one day out of the year, to remember our struggle with civil rights.  Most people will say that they believe that they believe in equality, yet they resent a single day to remember someone who fought for it.  How can anyone listen to the "I Have a Dream" speech and not be moved.

What is it about leadership that makes people become stupid?

Interesting reading on Miles Horton and the Highlander school on the labor movement and civil rights

Reminds me of the ESPN commercial where when a guy raised his hand and said, "This might be a stupid question..." and Chris Berman said, "There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking questions.....so, what's your question?".

In this case it would be, "There's no such thing as stupid decisions, just stupid leaders making decisions.......so, what's your decision?"  At least the guy in the commercial was smart enough to say, "Never mind....".  Wish some of our leaders would do the same.......
