Septic tank has been in ground 20 years. Its a real tank... Not a homemade one. I have water where the tank meets the pipe going to fill line... All I wanted to do is repair or replace fill line. I understand from the contractor I spoke with that the county wants to me to hire a engineer to design a pump system. I know new lines have to be 50 feet from the lake (I am 25 - 38 feet away where the lines have been for 2o plis years)...
Didnt this grandfather in or is everyone on the lake oneday going to have to do a engineered system???
Its funny... Noone has even looked at my situation just hinted engineer a pump system...
Does Alabama Power have any say so over this?
Please share your experience or thoughts about this...

I suspect the continued use of your existing tank that was working was grandfathered with the stipulation that you could empty the tank but not repair it.

They are fast. I already got a letter from the Health Department today saying my lot size is to small for a conventional system and will require a engineered design system...
All I want to do is fix my septic tank that probably has a broken pipe going to the field line...

Let me guess.....you have pine trees in the area of the field lines.
I do, and had Dale Mask come out and take a look. Field lines choked with pine roots. Found that, because of where the tank is situated in relation to the house, lake, and property lines, it was not practical to install new field lines that would be gravity drained. So he reommended they be put up the hill toward the road, I had a perc test done, and as a result of that perc test the engineer drew out a system and the Coosa Couty Health Dept approved it. There will be a thousand gallon tank buried where the septic tank empties, and the catch tank will have a sump pump to push the water uphill to the field lines.

If you are dealing with Coosa County, Dale is definitely the man to use. He has great credibitlity with them. But, if they want you to hire an engineer, I would recommend that you do so. Coosa can be very strict in their interpretation of the rules. Dale is the man to do the work.

No pine trees or anything. As a matter of fact I dont have a tree in my yard... After speaking with a few others they feel like the pipe coming out of the tank has detached. I will have it pumped out next week and then do some digging to find out what the problem is. I dont beleive its stopped up lines....
