Had a crew come by this morning saying Ala. Power sent them to scout dead trees.  Anyone know if this is legit. and who pays for this to be done?

Alabama Power does do periodic trimming of their right of way.  If it's on your property they should ask your permission to trim limbs or dead trees around your service line from the transformer to your house.  They have a 30' easement they have to maintain up to the transformer, I believe.  They will never charge you for their work.  Just remember, if you have an electricity outage due to tree damage and you won't let them cut limbs or dead trees, sweat in silence cause it'll be your fault.

I have a couple of dead trees bordering the electric line coming to our house. I contacted Alabama Power and they said they no longer clear dead trees off of people's property due to liability reasons. They menioned it is the homeowner's responsibility.

If they happen to be the subcontractor that cut in my area- BEWARE-- they will not clean up and haul away the cuts. Limbs are still where they left them. You'de better have a conversation with an Alabama Power rep before they are allowed to start.
