My dad and i are working on a project to help a young family
get affordable housing and we welcome any help available. if anyone is willing
to lend a little of their time, professional expertise, or possibly even donate
to the cause we would be grateful. i am not going to post personal details
about the family on this public forum, but would be happy to discuss what we’re
doing in person and give details. This project is for a hard working young family
that could use a little boost from the goodwill of others….the young man
involved is known by several forum members and i’m sure they will attest to his
character if needed. We are not a registered charity, so any help will be from
the heart and probably won’t be eligible for any tax credit. We will in no way profit from this project and
will be donating a considerable amount of our own time and will also continue
to contribute financially.
The family is currently living an a very old trailer that is
far beyond it’s intended life expectancy. We have found a home that was in foreclosure
and my family made an offer that has been accepted by the bank. We will take possession
on the home today and our plan is to get it ready for this young couple to own
and occupy by early fall. The house is old and needs a lot of work, but it will
make a great home once we are finished.
Here are some of the things we could use help with.
HVAC- The house has a central heating and air system that
will not turn on. Heating is from LP gas and the AC unit is dated 1995. We are
hoping to get a HVAC volunteer to get it running.
insulation- The house has none. Any insulation connections for
donations of materials and or expertise would be welcomed.
Windows- Some will need replaced.
Plumbing- The water heater is leaking.
Electrical- Looks OK, but it would be nice to have an expert
look things over
Legal Work- we could use some help setting up the proper
legal documents.
There are many other repairs that will be needed. We plan to
rip out the carpet and linoleum this weekend and we know the floor will need
some repairs. We also will probably have to do some fortification to the
structural supports in the crawl space and work on moisture control under the house.
Once we get the project going, there may be more.
if you think you have a skill that may be helpful in this
project and would like to donate a little bit of your time and expertise to a
good cause, send me an email. Thanks in advance. -John
