We

joined this group last year. We are in our 60's and access to emergency healthcare is a concern.  At that time they had a helicopter stationed nearby. They have discontinued that ( I don't know when maybe someone does) and I renewed this year without that knowledge. A neighbor mentioned this in a conversation last week.

This leads to a couple of questions.

1. Do many people on here belong to Air Evac and did they know about the elimination of the local helicopter?

2. I kmow there was an air evac of the injured kids over the weekend. Who did that evac?

The $65 a year fee is not the issue but thinking we had a service that is not there is a concern.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Yes, the Air Evac service left the area do to a lack of business last year. When they left they sent me a refund for the remaining money on my contract with them.

I just looked and I still have their sticker on my front door window.  One more job - remove it !!!

I don't know of a replacement service to contract with.

I am a pilot for Alabama Life Saver 4 (based in Sylacauga) We along with Life Saver 4 (Auburn area) both respond to the Lake Martin area.  We offer an insurance plan through LifeShield Alliance. Unlike the AirEvac plan this plan covers a $10,000 benefit regardless of who provides the air transportation.  Individual plans are $49.95 and family plans are $59.95/year.  For more information visit http://www.lifeshieldalliance.com .. Haynes Ambulance in Wetumpka also provide Aeromedical evacuation services for this area but I am unsure if they offer a similar plan.

Life Shield refuses my application unless I provide the Social Security numbers of my entire family. I will not send this info on line or over the phone to anyone. I would like to join but withhold this information. Any exceptions?

I agree that is a real problem. Does anyone know who was used for an air evac this past weekend?

I'm deployed with the Guard right now but I will pass the concerns to our staff.  Give me a little time and I'll see if They know of a solution for this..
