Are com[uters really a help for society? I know they're good for for work and play, but i really think that we as a society are becoming dumb. You see people that can't do anything for themselves, people that can't think ,but have to go to a computer for any little thing.Iagree that we need them for today's tecnology, but i think we wereall better off when we exercised our brains more. Being a geek and using computers in my lively hood, I've known only 1-reason for the existence of computers. To speed-up a process we currently do manually. To this day, I hardly ever use Calculator to balance my checkbook or calculate any other numbers. Rarely do I use the Spell-Check or Thesaurus in letters. And Databases are just big filing cabinets (very simple comparison).

Heck, how did people do their work prior to the propagation of computers? Good, ol' brain-power. And what will happen IF all access to computers & technology is cut-off, e.g., giant E-M-P shuts-down everything (ok, far-fetched, but what-if)?

My kids are going to learn to do everything manually before using the PC. Once they know how to do it in their heads, fine, double-check on the PC. But, don't become a "slave" to the machine.

"The mind, once stretched by an empowering idea, can never fully shrink to it's original dimensions" Wish I could remember who said this.
