WOW!!

Did anyone see the car crash almost into Opelika on 280 last week?

That is probably the worst crash I've seen in my life time. : (

An Auburn student pulled out in front of a Log Truck and was stuck and dragged into a Telephone pole.

Both vehicles were overturned.

When I rode by, the car was completely unrecognizable and the police had placed a white sheet over what was the car door entrance.

I heard on the radio later she had died. She was 23 out of Birmingham.

I really hated to hear that as my daughter just graduated from Auburn last year. It literally could have been any one of our kids on any given day.

My thoughts and prayer go out to the family of the young lady.....and also the Truck driver as I'm sure he is guilt riden even though according to the report....it wasn't his fault.

You guys be carefull out there....there's a lot of those trucks now days that are coming out of inconspicuous places from the forest on to the highway.

Here's a link to an article about the crash. It says at the end that an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of the driver's death, which seems pretty obvious to me...

Any ideas on why money and time are wasted doing an autopsy like this? I can understand doing an autopsy for a murder investigation or if the cause of death is unknown, but this is rediculous.

to see if there was any alcholol or drugs or any other thing involved with the driver. Or a reason that the driver caused the accident other than accidental, if it was the drivers fault.

Could be done for many reasons, peace of mind, insurance reasons, police reasons.

...is that she had literally a mile of clear sight from which the truck was coming.
Obviously not paying attention.
We've all done it some time or another...this was her time.
Yes, let's all be careful, turn down the radio, get off the phone OR have a hands-free device (they make a ton of difference).

Good Morning Island Camper - I thought I would respond to your question about the reason for autopsy. The law (in California) requires that an unattended death be investigated to determine the cause. Unattended means that the decedent was not under the immediate care of a physician, and death was not expected. The cause of that car crash might have many possibilities, as well as the death itself. The car crash may have been mechanical, ie. stuck accelerator, faulty brakes etc. The cause of death may or not be related to the crash. The driver could have had a heart attack and died before the collision, the driver may have accidently or purposfully overdosed on medication and died prior to the crash. The driver could possibly have gone into a diabetic seizure and died from injuries related to the crash or from the seizure. As you can see, many unanswered questions arise from unattended deaths, and autopsy often explains the not so obvious.

I guess it would clear up a lot of questions. Thanks for the info.

I drive a tri-axle dump truck and get nervous at any intersection with traffic.

Good editorial piece in today's (Monday, June 21) OA News about the young lady. Looks at though she had a kind and caring heart.

As a parent of two, I cannot imagine losing a child.

Sympathy to her parents and family.

She spent most of her free time visiting the elderly, the sick, or doing volunteer work for AA. Her parents have a place on Lake Martin. She will be missed by many people.

From what I've been hearing from you guys about this young lady....It seems that maybe she already paid her dues on this earth....and went to her just reward.

GOD bless her and her family.

Stratman.....
