I've come to the conclusion that the neighbors PWCs are the worst. If women (most) or children are riding, they're afraid to get too far from home base. If men/boys are riding them, they want to stay close to the dock so that everyone can see what great riders they are. In both cases, they just buzz in continous, annoying circles in front of the neighbors cabins. People with boats usually get in them to leave and go someplace else. We have a PWC and make a point to get at least a little distance from the shore/neighbors....don't you guys?

If you stay pretty far from shore in my area ( old Bama Park slough ) I probably won't say too much. But if you want me to look at you and be " impressed " you will be talking to the MP pretty soon explaining the pictures he has of your antics. Then pay your fine. With todays gas prices, travel between home and the lake, distruction of private property, reckless operation fines, better get a 2nd job. Do not buz my pier! With todays technology you will live in court.

I (we) have been coming to the lake for quite some time and have lived here only a short while. Been reading the forum for awhile and a subject finally got my attention enough to comment. "PWC'S".

Most instances I have personally witnessed involve young people who are turned loose on them and have little or no supervision.

Please don't misunderstand my comment as I (we) also have PWC's but they are never used as a babysitter nor are the kids turned loose by themselves. They know how to operate them out on the main lake and there is always an adult with them. Running around in coves or buzzing docks will happen once and they will become a non operator.

I tried talking to a couple of PWC owners in my area but the designator PWC takes on a whole new meaning. "Probably Won't Care"

There, I feel better and I can get back to the serious stuff like fishing. . . .

That's the nice thing about winter, quiet and tranquil.

Have a great day on the lake.

I have just as much problem with adults on PWC's in my area. Got a 50ish guy who is otherwise a calm, productive member of society with a good paying job, etc. but, he saddles up on his souped up PWC and just loses his mind. Never ever heads out to the middle of the lake, just hugs the shoreline at about 40 mph. Might have to have a talk with him.

While I agree some PWC operators are not considerate of others I have found just as many other boat operators that are inconsiderate or don't know how to operate a boat or follow the rules. Just try pulling into a gas dock on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and here comes a boatload towing children on tubes pulling up to the pumps in front of everyone or there goes a bassboat at 70 miles an hour threading its way up a narrow channel. Or watch the idiot teaching a beginner to ski in one of the busier sections of the lake.
The problems will always be there because the state will neve be able to afford enough Marine Police to enforce the laws.
Our family has been on the lake over 10 years, and my now grown children know they better respect others and operate safely because I still hold the keys to the PWC and the Pontoon Boat.

All watercraft can be nuisances, if operated improperly or without regard to others. What bothers me more than the PWCs buzzing around close to the shoreline/docks, is the manner in which many "real" boats are driven. A common occurence in my slough is to see someone in a ski or pontoon boat slowly cruising around the shoreline, close to docks, but just fast enough to pull mammoth wakes. I think the operator actually thinks by going "slowly" that he/she is being considerate. If only they would look behind and see that the wake they're pulling is big enough to bounce floating docks and boats all over the place.

But as long as it keeps getting more crowded...it will get worse...

Thats one reason I left after 30 years on the lake..

There are just too many inconsiderates and not enuf enforcement

There's a neighbor in Windermere who is an avid golfer. Every time another person buzzez his dock on his PWC, the golfer decides to go out & hit some practice balls into the lake from his shore. It's funny, but the PWC rider doesn't seem to enjoy golf!

Unfortunately, I think that everyone shares in the "rudeness". I am not saying that anyone is worse than the other. I honestly believe that people don't realize how rude it is to ride right by someone's pier / house, fish right next to someone's pier, kick up a nice wake inside of marinas, tow skiers/tubers in the busiest part of the lake, tailgate boats, cut right out in front of larger boats, etc......this list could go on forever. I do own a PWC and I agree that a lot of PWC riders are right up there in annoyances. I have also seen a large number of ski boats / bowriders / pontoons riding slowly in front of homes kicking up a massive wake. Its plain sad that people cannot respect other people's property. I guess it will never change tho, but if everyone would treat the lake and others like it was themselves or their property, it would be nicer for everyone. Just remember that when you get out on the lake this summer.
