Got the super dish in September 2004. No problems until December 2004. Did not need an adapter. In December, the pro adapter which adapts the incoming cable from the dish to my older model receiver (incoming cable goes on one side, outgoing to TV goes on the other - about the size of a pack of cigarettes) fried. Technician came spent well into the dark looking and finally said let me replace the adapter. He remarked that this was a very long shot. Presto...satelite lit up. $80 bucks went away with him.

Fried again in May 2005. Technician came again. Different one. Told him "Why don't you look at the adapter?" He said, "That could not be the problem, I have never replaced one." I insisted. Presto...satelite lit up. Nother $80 went with him in the van.

Fried again last week.

More than you wanted to know, but has anyone else had this problem?

If so, any idea what might be the cause? Should have bought a new receiver long ago. But should also have bought a million gallons of gas in July. Did neither

Quickly running out of eighty dollar bills.

Thanks

Just wondering....Don't know if this will help, but....Do you have a lightning protection device inline where the cable comes inside, and is the grounding for the coax NEC-approved?
If these items are inline, you might check the ground connection and make sure it actually goes to ground. Sometimes the weedwhacker or other accidents can break the ground wire.
If all that is OK, it is possible that Dish got a bad run of converters, or whatever they are.
I have DirecTV and don't have that old/new equipment problem even though I bought the dish and LNB (and first receiver) around 1997 or so.
