It would seem the Lake Martin Journal is correct in stating the lake will not be corked until the usual mid-February timeframe. It has been raining hard all day, with very little (if any) rise in water level. So much for rumors……..

OK , I have been wanting to address the water level issue for awhile as the rumors have been flying, as they do each year around this time. Here is how you can find the real deal. Go to the water level area of this site and proceed to the month of Feb. as you will see they post the rule for each day and the proposed level to be achieved. As I see it they plan on starting to bring the lake up about the 18th of Feb. This info changes every year and is the real source for what is planned. Hope this clears up some of the rumors
|
All good points, and I think anyone who has been around for awhile knows that information. This year however, some of the rumors came from a sorce that would seem to be more credible. I certainly didn't plan on an early rise, but I was curious. Also, the water did come up about a foot over night, but I don't expect it to stay. If it does, so be it.

1. I don't see how any source could be more credible than APC itself; why would anybody know more about what their plans are than them?
2. Speaking of plans... I'm not sure they have any. I sometimes think their guidelines are merely a smokescreen to make us outsiders think they know what they're doing. :-)
3. A foot?! According to the "official" data, it has risen one-tenth of a foot in the past 24 hours.
|
1. I agree- but the information that Don provided was indicated to come from APC
2. LOL, Agree here too
3. Actually about 14 inches at my dock as of 10 minutes ago when I was fishing (but not catching).....
|
my wife says it's up about 5 inches and you shouldn't take a mans word on measurements

One of the things I have noted is that the "official" level did not mesh with my experience at my dock. I suppose water just stands higher at some points in the lake than at the "official" measuring site! Who knows?!

Something I've noticed-- and I'm not accusing you or jlazc of this, you've both been around long enough to know better-- is that some people measure how far the water has "come up" by measuring the distance on their sloping shorelines. To those people, it is quite possible for the water to "rise" different levels in different places. However, those who have-- and use-- common sense know better.

I have noted that too, and you are right. Some folks seem to misunderstand that measurement. However, as another poster noted, if you measure actual level from your pier, it can rise (or fall) much different in a given day than the official measurement will indicate. It also can vary significantly from the "rule" as I noted in another post.

The water level has been the same as far as rising for the last 15years. It goes up March. lowers after labor day. Grin and bare it. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.
|
I measure with a stick off my floating dock. I'm sure it's not exact because of the mud factor and exact placement, but it's close. It actually was up close to a foot this morning (I was setting up the "measurement" joke with the 14" statement) but it has dropped again this afternoon.

You must be a very busy person, with a lot on it`s mind.
|
A very busy day; I got the forms set for my new garage, went fishing, took some measurements, checked my e-mail and the forum 5 times, drank a beer, talked to the lumber company about a framing package, and.......oh crap, I forgot to eat lunch or dinner.......better go make a burger.

And I thought, toward the end of the list of things you did you were going to say - "then I had breakfast". Along the lines of the Army commercial a few years ago.
Hope things are coming along OK on the garage. I should have my first draft of the new cabin plans by this weekend.
|
The burger was good and it WAS breakfast , because I skipped that too!
I was delayed a little by yesterdays rain, but the garage is coming along great ( although I worked some muscle groups I had forgot about) ......guess I better get some sleep, because 50 yards of concrete will start arriving at 8am in the morning.
