To those who support this bill, let’s suppose for a moment regardless of how hard you tried, your children do not grow up to be as selfish and anal as you. They desire to own a boat that can be safely and responsibly operated on a lake the size of Lake Martin, and taken to the gulf and enjoyed with their family. Your long gone a$$ supported a bill that denies them this privilege. This is for keeps, and this is wrong. Banning big boats has nothing at all to do with over crowding. It does nothing for eroding; the wind does as much damage as any boat. Just because I don’t like your sight seeing a$$ creating waves in front of my house I do not want you banned, I only wish you would be more considerate of your wake. I believe it is a law that I am responsible for any damage my wake causes. If I cause damage to your property get my registration and turn my inconsiderate a$$ in. I will do the same for you. Supporting a bill that allows the State to regulate something this simple is not only un-American it is very selfish. I could go on about how it is not the size of the boat, but the operator, but you would not understand because of some blind ignorance that I do not understand. This is not your lake it is not my lake it is our lake. Sorry for the long post, but yes I am BITTER.

Lakefun,

I do kind of feel bad for you. It is probably not you that has caused this law to be needed. With that said, the big boats do create bigger wakes that cause more disruption on the lake making it much more difficult to navigate. The Big fast boats...well I think you already know how I feel about them. It is unfortunate that for one side to get their way another side must not get theirs but I have been living with this fact my whole life. Sometimes your the insect and sometimes your the window. I bet you will still have plenty of fun at the Gulf with your big boat and you will find (or perhaps you already own) another boat to enjoy "our" lake. Unfortunately, this law makes you bitter and this law makes me smile. My best to you!

Bob

Very true Bob. If I am not mistaken the big Cabin Cruisers that create the real monster wakes will remain on the lake. As far as enjoying my boat at the gulf I cannot afford to maintain a boat that I will only use 2 or 3 times a year. I can however afford a 26-foot cabin cruiser that takes 3 days to get on plain that we can enjoy at the lake and the gulf. This is one option.

Its very hard to feel sorry for people who might be negatively impacted by the bill (although I can't figure out who that is with all of the grandfathering) if you and your buddies didn't call names and spew hateful comments in every post on this. I haven't seen one post from a big boat supporter who is willing to even consider the other point of view, which tells me a lot about how considerate you are as boat operators.

You nailed it, LittleKowaliga. It's that "you don't matter" attitude that makes it very easy to support this bill. They might try to turn this argument around, but that won't fly; anyone with enough sense to learn to read can see the difference between " You don't like my boat, so I don't like you" and "I don't like your boat, so I hope you have to downsize."

I resent that... I even apologized before... See earlier post below

I know how you feel longtimer, trust me. I have seen every categorization of "big boat owners" which I guess is the category I fall in. We have been called irresponsible idiots that don't know how to drive our boats or care about others. I will admit, I think all of this has gotten out of hand and I will go as far as apologizing for simi lashing out yesterday (bad day at work, and the stress of life in general) but I do apologize. I hope that there can be a resolution that keeps the majority happy. I also pray that this is not the start of limiting a lot of the happiness that most find with the lake, for example, this limitation leading to others. I do know that I love the lake, I love every minute I get to spend on it. I understand that certain restrictions must be put in place before we see the lake with obsessive yachts on it, and I do feel that there are a lot of individuals who consistently display carelessness on the lake. I do not like to be categorized with these individuals just because I own a larger boat. (Which to me is small compared to a lot on the lake, but effected by this bill never the less.) I just pray that we can all find a way to consider each others views, what everyone has to loose from this and find a way to take all of this into consideration with our feelings. I know personally my feelings have been on edge because the ending result is out of my control and it has the potential of really hurting my family and our recreational habits. I hope that you have a wonderful day and maybe someday there will be an end to this madness that hopefully will please both our sides.
