When a construction company is building a new house, condo, etc... the dirt that is moved from areas where water would be when at full pool...can't that dirt only be used to fortify the bulkhead and NOT be moved to other parts of the construction site?

Your message probably has a hidden question, but as I understand it you can take out but you can't add to the dirt in the lake. What you do with it once you take it out is probably a mute point. I have built several sea walls in the past and APCO will tell you that you can use the dirt from the lake to back fill to the 490 mark. With that said you can't extend your property into the lake, as in adding to your property. Usually you can move the seawall out a couple of feet to help in the process of construction. Hope this helps, and as always your best bet is to contact APCO for the real deal. Mr Payne and Mr. Reames can point you in the right direction.

APCO has let us remove dirt but only with very thorough engineered topos and proper approval. The majority of the dirt you remove from the lake bed has to be used in back filling the seawall...good luck!

but that has not stopped me from commenting in the past.

Talked to a civil engineer some years ago and he said Alabama Power must regulate the size of the lake pool. Any dirt removed below 490 increases the water pool and puts additional pressure on the dam. The dam was built to certain specifications and if lots of folks took dirt out, eventually it could threaten the dam.

Sounded good to me. Might even be true.

APC will permit removing a maximum of 50 cubic yards and they don't specify where you put it, just so you remove it from the 490 and below area. I had a permit this year, but they did not let me remove the full 50 cubic yards, only the amount I needed to install a lift.
