Subject:   Should we get newer software?

Once apon a time, this was a good piece of software website. Now there are so many others that allow editing for spelling, embedded images, bold, among other things and the big thing is a new post goes to the top of the list so members can find them.

I posted these a year ago. With new software, they could have been found and not repeated, then added onto.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Be very careful of buying on west coast. My friend Ron Hoya bought a new house in Los Banos, CA. He then moved to Hanford and bought another house before the Los Banos house closed escrow.

It turns out he was dealing with a "flipper" who backed out.

Ron now has two houses. Price? 0.15 acre and 3200 sq ft house for only $599,000

The other house was more. He rented a 1200 sq ft house during construction for $1200/mo

I would rent. The CA bubble may ne bursting even as we speak.

In Wisc we have Lake Geneva. It is halfway netween Chicago and Milwaukee. When lots (tear downs) hit one million, Pewaukee lake hit $250k. The Minocqua chain hit 100k and lots on little lakes in the north hit $30k.

I call this the Lake Geneva effect. It would be foolish to think the fourth biggest, second deepest, and cleanest lake in Wisc only 60 miles from Chicago money should sell for the same as a place 30 miles from the nearest store that is so cold, it does not thaw until May 5 some years.

Its as they say; location is everything. You can buy a lot on Murphy Lake for $55k right now.

I bought a lot on the Fox river in Omro, WI for $3500. in 1971. Sold it 1n 1996 for $18,000. In 1971, a lot on Pewaukee lake would have been $40,000, now close to the million mark.

A friend of mine just paid $600,000 for a 3200 sq foot house in CA on a 0.15 acre lot in Los Banos. I think he's crazy, but its his money.

Above were posted a year ago but would have fit into today's posts. Almost impossible to find here. You need the posters name.

I called this company. It costs $85/year to lease their software which is wonderful. Another $45/year to host a site + 8.95yr for the name.. The current us-waters.com must make a fortune off our content. We could have ads or come up with the ~ $140 per year cost.

See example at:

http://www.thehighroad.org/ copy and paste if needed. It is not needed on the vbulletin software.

I have long considered starting a new forum. I have the url lakemartinforum.com reserved already. My only holdup has been the cost of hosting, but some new projects I am about to start may require me to purchase hosting anyway. I would use the free hosting software called phpbb. You can visit the site below. Check out their community forum to get an idea of what it would look like.

There's already another Lake Martin forum that nobody ever uses over on savelakemartin.com. Decent site besides that, tho.

Island Camper,; your link is dead. I'm just the messenger. I know of a site we coulld use with 1800 MB free and a ton of bandwidth. A name and a forward and you're in business.

Uncle Sam; I went to savelakemartin.com. and it has two site killers. It shoots itself in the foot with too busy of backgrounds. It is almost impossible to read. It makes people who don't know you can highlight text and read it, leave. But that's not important. They shot themselves in the head with the first link:
"
By Ben Blanchard Tue Oct 24, 6:29 AM ET

BEIJING (Reuters) - Humans are stripping nature at an unprecedented rate and will need two planets' worth of natural resources every year by 2050 on current trends, the WWF conservation group said on Tuesday."******************************************* end

The World Wildlife Federation ( WWF) is a fringe group of waccos who believe, boo hoo, the World is coming to an end unless you send us extortion money. One of the founders predicted in 1968 that soybeans would sell for $30 per bushel if people did not stop "over population" of the planet within 30 years. 1998 soybean prices = $4.75 per bu.

In 1955 a good Wisc. milk cow gave 3,500 pounds per year; now up to 24,000. So people can addapt. But if you ever go to these people's forum and say something that is not "preaching to the Choir", you are banned or shunned. Soybeans today are $7.60/bu.

People who can think and read shun these sites. University of Alabama, Huntsville has an ex-NASA teacher that quit NASA because he could not explain how "global warming" is backwards under his NASA contract .

Any one who believes that people can kill a planet that has had the oceans go down 300 feet by water tied up in glaciers, just 10,000 to 100,000 years ago, needs a Earth science course from a teach who is free to speak the truth.

Anyone care to comment? I'll provide links.

Actually, people who can read and think for themselves tend to gather as much information as they can from a variety of sources; they then use this information to form their own informed opinion. It's people who don't think, who like to be led around by the nose and told what to believe, who shun information that might refute what they've been told to believe.

And I don't see evidence of "But if you ever go to these people's forum and say something that is not "preaching to the Choir", you are banned or shunned." Other than the Longtimer-Babygirl "I'm rubber, you're glue" battle, I don't see that this board has ever been used for anything; it's unfair to say you've been shunned when you've never posted, don't you think?

I'll semi-agree with you about the backgrounds; I find them distracting, but not quite as bad as you do.

The World Wildlife Fund is anything but a "fringe organization." The WWF is the largest multinational conservation organization in the world; WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally.

WWF is committed to employing the highest standards of excellence and accountability in the pursuit of mission. Our science and field work are dedicated to pursuing innovative and cost-effective approaches to conservation, while our strict financial management policies have earned praise from watchdog groups. SmartMoney magazine and other guides consistently rank WWF among the nation's top charities, both for our achievements and for the high percentage of revenue that goes directly into conservation work.

WWF's mission is the conservation of nature. Using the best available scientific knowledge and advancing that knowledge where we can, we work to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth and the health of ecological systems by

* protecting natural areas and wild populations of plants and animals, including endangered species;
* promoting sustainable approaches to the use of renewable natural resources; and
* promoting more efficient use of resources and energy and the maximum reduction of pollution. We are committed to reversing the degradation of our planet's natural environment and to building a future in which human needs are met in harmony with nature. We recognize the critical relevance of human numbers, poverty and consumption patterns to meeting these goals.

I could go on, but I encourage you, and anyone who reads this post, to do your own research; once you have the facts at hand, I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion that the World Wildlife Fund is anything but a "fringe organization."

have another cup of Kool-Aid.......

I consider myself a progressive thinker and I believe in looking for new ways of getting things done better, but WWF positions ARE "fringe" positions when you look at what the vast majority support and believe in.

The vast majority don't care one bit; however, that does not make it right ot be apathetic. Just because majority rules doesn't make the majority right.
