As the water level drops, I have noticed several exposed tree trunks in the water. Is anyone responsible for removing them? Seems like a serious safety hazzard.

not that I've ever heard of...not here and not in any other public waters I've ever known.

For concerned lake users, floats are sometimes a good suggestion for indicating submerged trunks, trees, etc. Submerged rocks or rock ledges are more difficult to indicate. An example: if the water is down about 10 feet when the trunk is exposed, take a float (orange or white or other bright color) with about 10 feet of strong fish line attached and tie it to the trunk. As water rises so will the float, indicating the trunk below the water. Once in a while, if the float is only up two, three , four, etc feet above the trunk, there will be a little slack in the line. If a boat comes too close to the float, the line/wire etc might get caught in the propeller. It works generally OK on some other lakes, it might work here. Perhaps this has been tried before, and knowledgeable people could comment on whether it worked or not.

I am a relatively new lake user. I just seems that these submerged trunks are a very real but correctable safety hazard. I'm sure AL Power has the equipment and resources to remove them as they appear during low lake levels. Will it take the death or serious injury of a skier falling and hitting one before AL Power will take action?

Is anyone else concerned about things like this on the lake?

Anyone have any info as to AL Power's responsibility in this area? Who to call?

Just take some time to learn the lake at the new water levels. There are just as many rocks that are dangerous as stumps. It not Alabama power duty to clear the late of stumps. My gosh, the lake is much much more dangerous in the spring when water levels are high and you have to constantly watch out for logs. Come on people, this lake has always risen and dropped through out the year by 15 to 20 feets and always will. After many years on the lake I now know where it safe to fish and ski when the water levels are low. When I was a young man and the water dropped we would go out and explore the lake. It was kind of fun the see tha changes and still is somewhat. If we drop to 490 this year I'll be out there again to study the lake.
