This is an interesting article this morning about record power demand due to the current heat wave. I have noticed that the lake level has dropped almost one inch since last Sunday versus a much slower rate when the COE ordered more releases from Lake Allatoona. I find it interesting that APCO states that it has ample capacity to meet demand even without hydro generation. It seems that the downstream releases have increased lately even in the face of previous warnings about hydo system "failure" due to low water levels. This could be incorrect as no one knows the current cfs release levels from Martin Dam but it seems curious as to the lake level dropping faster when APCO itself states that hydro power is not needed to meet demand. It could just be lower inflows are not ofsetting the outflow but other than minimum downstream releases for water quality purposes why is there any generation of hydro power if the system is at risk of "failure" http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2007/08/heat_drives_alabama_power_to_r.html

Call Martin Dam and ask for Arnold for answers to your concerns about releases from the dam and factors affecting the current water storage in the Martin project.

Is there a direct number to Martin Dam?

High temperatures, evaporation?
