It sure would have been nice for all of us football fans, who use Charter in Alexander City as our cable TV provider, to be able to watch the Championship game in HD. Yes, it's being broadcast in HD. We get the other networks in HD . . . what's the problem in getting us CBS in HD?

You know, I've always wondered why Charter can't afford to put CBS on HD. Makes you want to go to Direct or Dish.

Direct TV is really tempting. Especially since they are running holiday specials. You get two channels of each major network . . . HD. And the most expensive offer they have is about $40 less than we are paying for Charter . . . and we have everything that Charter offers, except any premium channels. And Charter can't afford to give us CBS HD ?? I can't help but wonder how many subscribers they are losing each week and I'm thinking about joining them.

Surprising,
In Auburn/Opelika (usually the last area to get ANYTHING on Charter) we did get CBS in HD. Out of Columbus. Maybe it is an area thing.
|
....and the game sure looked good, not to mention having NFL Network and more for less money.

The local CBS network has to agree to let Charter use their HD signal.I too have Charter where I live. They offer all networks in HD except the CW.

Unless there's been a change, due to some kind of turf battle with cable providers, DirecTV does not offer local channels at the lake. (We have a Jacksons Gap zip code.) We pay extra to get CBS, NBC and ABC which comes out of New York. The New York channels may come in HD but you get local New York City news/weather and regional sports.

Yes out of Montgomery.
Only issue I have with satellite is when we have a major storm. It will go out.

My dish is more reliable than any cable system I've ever had. It may falter momentarily in VERY heavy rain, but given our rain predicament, it hasn't been a factor in over a year....heck, I'd be grateful for some extended down time on the tube right now!

AUTIGER said . . . "The local CBS network has to agree to let Charter use their HD signal. I too have Charter where I live. They offer all networks in HD except the CW."
If that is true, then It doesn't appear to be a problem with any of the OTHER networks. What can the hang-up be with CBS in Montgomery/Selma ( WAKA channel 8 ).
I would bet a Coke that it's like I tell my son, start with the answer and work backwards. In this and most other cases, the answer is MONEY . . . now work backwards to find the reason.
In AUTIGER's response, I'm not sure what "CW" means.

Dish looks like a pretty good deal, but none of the local networks offered by Dish out of Montgomery offer HD, so I would lose HD on Fox, ABC, NBC, and still not get CBS in HD. Is that correct?
