Can't we do anything about annoying jet skiers ? They tear up our shores ... they are dangerous ... WHY don't we have more of a voice about them ??

This is my 4th rewrite of a response, and as gently worded as I can make it ........ you have a number of THINGS you can do regarding operators of those annoying PWC's, go fast boats, wake boarders, skiers and 70 mph tournament fisherman. A few that come to mind are -- attempting to legislate them off of their lake, you can possibly buy them out, or, you can locate and move to a more tranquil setting away from people enjoying their water. Life's grand when you have options.

It's not the jet ski's --it's the age of the driver. The drivers I see that are older than teens are usually fine. I'd say for jet ski's you'd see big change if the age limits for driving were increased. If that's not done, they police must be very vigilant in enforcing wreckless type driving. If we had as many 14 year olds driving boats as Sea Doo's we'd be saying "what can we do about those boats."

Umm .. you are basically saying live with it or leave. Not sure why people that create it dangerous for others and disturb others have more rights than people that want to enjoy the peace and beauty of the lake.
We intentially bought at the end of a quite cove rather than big water because we did not want the boat traffic and noise. Yet every weekend, because of the calm water in the cove we get many jet skiers and wakeboards rocking our floating dock and boat. Making it very uncomfortable to even sit outside ... we do not want to watch these people.
Now I have nothing against fishermen, since most are quite and out relaxing ... but almost every morning we are there we see two or three around our dock. Makes it difficult to even walk outside in a bathrobe and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.

I wonder who taught the teens to drive this way? Maybe they have been watching their parents and are just following their examples. I don't think it is the age as much as it is the examples the parents display.

If you live on public water you need to suck it up and get use to the fact other people will be in front of your dock whenever they want. It sounds to me like your selfish person that thinks they own all water that can be seen from their front yard. If you don't like it sell it and find one of those community lakes where you can only have a 9 HP outboard or electric motors.

Where you born a jerk or were you abused as a child? That is the oddest reply I have seen on this board. I will tell you what ... if you can come up with $1.4 million you can buy my property.

Good point ... my son and his college buddies love to take the wave runners out but I make sure they do not play where they will disturb others at their docks. It is a big lake and go out in the big water.

I'd bet if you owned property on the lake you would feel different. Who wants to sit on their doc while your boat and floating dock are rocking up and down because you have jet skis and wake boards riding in front of it doing circles around the cove. Yes the lake is public, it is a big lake with plenty of open water. If these people own property why not do it in front of their own?
As for the fishermen ... as i said not a problem ... but I will still go out on my dock and enjoy my coffee and get on my laptop and do some work while turning up the speakers on the dock to some great hip hop music. I don't know why, but they usually leave after that.

So if they don't own property that they can do that in front of, they shouldn't be here at all? You and feb related?

They should be here, but showing the consideration that they would like shown in front of their own homes. What I believe WW means is that if you lived on the lake you would understand how loud and disruptive you are because you would hear it for yourself. What I believe WW will learn is that those who do not live here or do not live in these tormented homes are the ones who will rip her head off for thinking she should be able to have coffee in her bathrobe on her own pier without being tormented. Some think the homeowners have no rights, only the skiers and others like them have rights here. The question WW is asking, I think, is why do we who live here have no rights.

NOT AT ALL ... only that the lake is big ... there is plenty of open water to play on ... why do it in a small cover that is guaranteed to make the water rough and rock docks and boats. People should enjoy the lake, but they should also be respectful of others. When I or my son and his buddies go out and play and horse around they go out in big water and not in front of our docks or others. That goes for jet skis and water skiing and wak boarding.

WW is all over the place with the thoughts, including the audio harrassment of the peaceful fishermen. I'm thinking it is probably the same sportsmen, or their offspring, stirring up WW's private pond later in the day. Seems fair.

No harrassment AT ALL ... just enjoying what I enjoy on my own dock. They are welcome to enjoy with me. In fact I typically offer them a cup of coffee or a refill. If they insist on a beer or a mimosa I will accomodate.

Personally, I think your wake board boat should not be allowed at all, anywhere. Maybe these folks like being in quiet areas so they don't have to deal with other drivers and worry about collisions. It doesn't matter where you go, you are in front of somebody's house. And why would you not feel comfortable going out in your robe? Is it from Victorias Secrets? Fredericks? The lake is a public waterway. In town should all traffic be blocked if you decided you wanted to have your coffee out at the mailbox by the road? Same principle, you have no expectation of privacy on your pier, you can however be prosecuted for violaton of noise ordinances if your neighbors complain of the morning music you share. Remember, the folks on the other side of the water can hear it better and louder than you.

Fortunately there is no other side ... just trees with no access ... that was part of the attraction for the lot when we bought it nearly 10 years ago. And i do not blast music ... not my style.

Can you give us better directions to your slough? Wide area network, fresh coffee/beer/mimosas, and some good backround music sounds good to me. What time should be there?

I answered the first time you asked ... The Ridge ... are you that forgetful. You need to lay off those morning beers it is effecting your memory. Sounds like you might be a bit jealous. Sorry ... I worked very hard for what I have. There are plenty of people that are much better off than we are and it is great to enjoy the fruits of your success no matter what you may define as success.

Always have friends over ... and when we do we enjoy our time together. Why not! And BTW it is no big deal to have internet access on your dock. Just get a wireless router and you have it. Not rock science. Any person with even a small brain knows that.

Are they within 100 ft of the dock?? I know a good wave will travel a bit and rock the dock, that could come from 1/4 mile away. As more homes are built this will become a bigger issue.

I do own property on the lake. We have had a house for 25 years. It will only get worse. More houses, more people, more boats. Just be glad you are fortunate enough to have a place like you have. It will never be the perfect place. The lake is big but will will eventually get smaller with the population increase.
And no, I was not abused. I was also not born a jerk, it took me years to perfect it...

I heard Alex City along with smoking was going to ban Jet Skiing. So if it's possible for the city to aquire as much of the lake as possible that would solve the problem. Maybe even make a law that makes 'Smoking while Jet Skiing' a felony. With the new election coming up this is something to seriously consider...
