I would like to add on to my dock. Does anybody know, or know where I can find, how many square feet I can have?

Thanks,

The total amount of dock square footage is a loaded question. As when the gentlemen from APCo shoreline permitting were at our house last year they stated I could build by new dock, but my overall square footage of all docks could not exceed XXXX Sq Ft. Do not remember the total number of square footage, as my lake neighbor met with them on my behalf.

No need to worry, they will tell you when you apply for a permit, but I think it is 420sqf maximum. Walkways 3ft wide, and less, do not count toward total square footage.

Thanks to both. Will see what they have to say with the permit.

Only problem is that they want $250 just to submit.

We went through this recently. The maximum dock size is 420 sq ft but only 300 sq ft can be permanent and the remaining 120 sq ft can be floating dock. The calculation does not include the boat house itself or any decking that is not at or beyond the 490.0 elevation. They also don't have to include walkways on either side of the boathouse which gave us an additional 90 sq ft. That is a little less formal and depends on the guy that does the inspection.

You do have to pay the fee so my suggestion is that you decide on this and any other potential project you may want to do in the future and get it all approved. We did that and added the additional dock one year, the floating dock the next, jet ski floats the year after that and then all we have left to do is extend the roof on our boathouse. They approved it all in one fell swoop.
