Below is paragraph from Bush on bailout. Note "no cost to the taxpayer" BUT oversight committee wil "be certain that their tax dollars are used" Really should be a period there.
The bill also includes other important ideas put forward by members of Congress from both parties. For example, the bill requires the establishment of a guarantee program that will insure assets at no cost to the taxpayer. The bill provides strong, bipartisan oversight so Americans can be certain that their tax dollars are used carefully and wisely. The bill ensures that failed executives do not receive a windfall from your tax dollars.

I don't doubt Bush said it but based on what I have heard I don't buy it that any of this is true. If it was such a great piece of legislation why did 95 Dems vote no? All Bush and Pelosi needed was support from Democrats as they control Congress. Someone needs to explain to me why those 95 Dems voted no.
My guess is they know their constituency hates the idea of this bailout and wanted to be able to vote no while Republicans would help carry the water on this bill. What a turn of events where Bush is aligned with Pelosi/Reid against a bunch of Republicans and Democrats.
