Is it because of the abundant rain? Maybe due to the drought year we had? It's just not as blue in the deep areas of the lake.

Since "gigging" has become a lost art, the culprit in Sandy Creek is an over-population of frogs...;-).

Rain, and lots of it. Lots of sediment in the water. During the drought the water was almost crystal blue. I would much rather have pretty green water than no water crystal blue

Me too but prior to the drought year we had mostly blue water in my area.

of course.. 10,000 boats on the lake for 12+ hours with no convenient porta pot. Ask yourself, what color does blue and yellow make??

Samdog, the green tint is likely from phytoplankton. I've noticed the same coloration in the Bay Pine area lately and it's not unusual this time of year. Where are you located?

FYI, this Thursday volunteers from Lake Watch and HOBOs will be assisting Auburn University with monthly testing at 16 sites around the lake. This is the sixth month of a 7-month water quality testing program Alabama Power Company is funding as part of the Martin Dam re-licensing process. The final test report will be available around the end of the year and I'll check to see if it can be posted here.

I'll also take some samples from my area of the lake and have AU do some testing for phytoplankton. Will let you know the results.
